An open-source CLI and visual architecture explorer for JavaScript and TypeScript codebases.
I built Reality Map after repeatedly joining existing projects and spending days trying to understand how everything was connected — which modules depended on each other, where the important logic lived, and what could break when making changes.
The idea was simple: give developers a way to understand unfamiliar codebases faster.
Reality Map scans a project locally and generates an interactive map of the real architecture — showing modules, dependencies, circular references, coupling points, important files, and the relationships between different parts of the codebase. No configuration, no uploads, and no external services. Everything runs on your own machine.
Beyond visualization, it also provides deeper codebase insights such as dependency analysis, health scoring, dead code detection, unreachable file analysis, and change impact analysis to help developers understand risks before making changes.
The project is still actively evolving, and I know there is a lot more that can be improved. I built it as an open-source tool because I believe tools like this become better when developers can contribute ideas, improvements, and new ways of looking at code.
Built with:
* TypeScript
* Node.js
* AST-based code analysis
* Interactive graph visualization
Contributions, feedback, and ideas are always welcome.
